Shutdown of Only App Instance

If you are supposed to shutdown one of the App Instance (but not Central Instance) for some reason, you need to take some precautions so that the users are not disturbed or any background job gets killed.
Record the current entries of transaction SMLG (Logon groups) and RZ12 (RFC server group assignment) in an xls spreadsheet.Delete assignments for the respective application instance server logon groups.
(In tran SMLG, click on the button ‘Remove instance’. Select the R/3 instance that is being shutdown and execute. This will delete all assignments for the R/3 instance.
In tran RZ12, click on the button ‘Remove instance’. Select the R/3 instance that is being shutdown and execute. This will delete all assignments for the R/3 instance)
Go to transaction RZ04. Select ‘instances/operation modes’. Double click on “SPCL BTCa” mode of relevant R/3 Instance & increase BPA processes & save ( DIA process should be 2).Switch the Operation mode for the selected instance to “SPCL BTCa” using transaction RZ03. In transaction RZ03, select the R/3 instance and click on Control --> Switch Operations mode --> selected servers.Check if the selected server’s work processes have converted to BTC WPs after the Op mode has been switched over, using SM50. In case some Dialog / background jobs are running then they will continue to run. The process will switch over to “SPCL BTCa” mode only when the job gets finished.Verify that no users are logged in, and no background jobs are active. Kill the jobs if it takes very long time (if it is OK).Then stop SAP of the App Instance.
