Here is the Procedure to Update your SAP Kernel
Stop all R/3 Processes and the Database
% stopsap all
Stop SAPOSCOL process
% saposcol -d
Stop ListnerControl process by logging in as ora user
%lsnrctrl stop
Download Kernel Patches
Copy Them to a directory on Central Instance
Backup Your Old Kernel (by renaming it or moving it)
uncar the downloaded files
After that restart your services in following order
Listner
SAPOSCOL
Database
R/3
